Buddy up With New Team Members and Prevent Them From “Running Out“ of Vet Medicine
If you want to help your new colleague to make a really nice start in our profession; you should join this lecture. As a new colleague, it is not always obvious to be immediately included in the team or to be able to demonstrate your potential value right away. You first have to go through a cloud of 'proving yourself', 'putting your best foot forward' and 'making yourself loyal to your employer and colleagues'. However, a number of companies operate a buddy system to make the entry level as small as possible.

There Is an “I” in Team
We have all heard it, probably even said it a time or two – "There is no 'I' in Team." Is it fair to say that the individual does not exist on a team? Of course not. A team is made up of individuals. A team harnesses the power of the skills, knowledge, and abilities of all those individual "I's" into a cohesive, high-performing group that can perform faster, stronger, and smarter than any individual.

Virtual: Early Chronic Kidney Disease in the Cat: How To Detect It and What To Do Next (IDEXX)
This session is livestreamed from VMX Orlando. This session will only be streamed live and will not be available On Demand. In this session we will discuss how the landscape of kidney disease in feline patients continues to change, and how we are now better equipped to address the underlying needs of our patients. New tools including Cystatin B, the first commercially available biomarker for detection of tubular injury, as well FGF-23 which can aid in the understanding of phosphorus dysregulation in cats with CKD allow for more nuanced diagnosis and treatment than reliance on traditional kidney biomarkers alone. Implementing Genetics in Small Animal Practice (Royal Canin)
Genetic screening for health, breeds, and traits are becoming commonly used tools for both dogs and cats and they have the potential to improve the individualized care that veterinary professionals can provide. To fully leverage genetic testing in practice, it is important to understand genetic terminology and concepts, as well as, how to interpret results, utilize that knowledge in your clinical care plans and properly communicate this information to clients. This presentation will cover all these aspects through case presentations to help clinicians become more comfortable incorporating genetic tools and conversations in practice.

A Multi-Modal Approach to Allergies (Nextmune)
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that reduces the quality of life for our patients and their owners. The first step of management is making the diagnosis. The diagnosis of atopic dermatitis is made by exclusion of other causes of itch; there is no diagnostic test. Allergy testing is used to discover those allergens that could be used in immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is the only treatment we have that can change the abnormal immune response and delay progression of the disease. Utilizing molecular allergy testing gives us the opportunity to use cross-reactivity to generate treatments with fewer allergens and hopefully better success. Another key element in managing atopic patients is skincare. In this seminar we will discuss the multi-modal approach to allergy management including testing, immunotherapy and skincare.

Myth Busting in Chemistry - Everything You Were Taught in School Was True... NOT! (Antech and Sound Imaging) - Breakfast Session
Myth #8 – For any given analyte, a value within the reference interval limits should be regarded as ‘normal’. Proper use of reference intervals is confusing to many of us. We must remember that these intervals are merely guideline references and in reality, we MUST learn to use an individual patient’s profile results in health as its specific reference. However, we do not have previous data on many of our patients and we must rely on provided reference intervals as a starting point. In a case-based manner, we will point out some of the primary areas where one must be cautious when interpreting chemistry reference intervals. Remember, clinically normal animals may have analyte values outside (slightly outside) reference interval limits and clinically ill animals may have analyte values within reference interval limits.
Myth #22 – The chemistry profile is the most important component of the laboratory profile. Chemistry profiles provide excellent direction to identify primary and secondary organ system involvement; however, there are several critical laboratory diagnostics that should be used prior to looking to the main chemistry profile. The complete blood count, complete urinalysis and electrolyte panel provide critical information related to the general health status of animal as well as helping define fluid balance and the character and severity of the disease, all of which are critical for proper interpretation of the chemistry profile to follow. Advanced Dental Procedures
Oral disease is one of the most prevalent diseases in dogs and cats. 80% of adult dogs and 70% of adult cats have oral disease. Unfortunately, that leads to the extraction of teeth that may have been saved. It is vital to offer the client the options for treatment via referral to the veterinary dental specialist. Owners want what is in the best interest of their pets but may not be aware of alternative treatment options. Remember never to judge what your clients will be willing to do for their pets.

Holding People Accountable (For Leaders Who Hate Conflict)
One of the biggest struggles leaders in practice have is holding team members accountable. No one teaches us how to delegate or communicate our needs effectively, and many feel stuck when people simply don’t do what we ask of them. This talk is all about how to hand projects off to people, follow up without micromanaging, and hold team members accountable.

Species-Specific Clinical Attributes of Reptiles
This session provides clinically useful, species-specific information on many of the snakes, lizards, and chelonians commonly presented to veterinarians. While each of the more than 12,000 species of reptiles is unique, basic reptile taxonomy and relationships will be discussed to help reptile practitioners understand how information known about some species might be helpful to understand a different species. Numerous species idiosyncrasies and their clinical relevance will be described so veterinarians who are new to reptile medicine can better serve their patients and their caretakers. Gutting to the Truth - Microbiomes Myths and Facts (AnimalBiome)
If the gut microbiome had an account on instagram, it would go viral. The importance of animal microbiomes are trending as veterinary professionals and pet parents learn more about how the microscopic residents, and their by-products of fermentation affect the health of the whole pet. Misinformation can occur especially since this area of science is rapidly changing through developing technology and the understanding of the function of resident microbes. Can you decipher the myths or facts when discussing microbiome-focused topics including testing, dysbiosis, and antimicrobial therapy options? This session will bust some commonly associated myths and facts that are circulating about microbiome medicine, the microbiomes of animals, and therapy options for veterinary patients. Dental Radiology Made Easy - Tips and Tricks!
Dental radiographs are an essential part of the oral exam. The crown is just the tip of the iceberg. Approximately 42% of dental pathology is found subgingivally. Radiographs will help diagnose pathology that is not visible from the surface, confirm suspect pathology, and help demonstrate the pathology to the client. Dental radiographs can improve the standard of care in your practice and increase your clinic’s revenue.

Block That Pain! Pain Management and Anesthesia for the Dental Patient
Pain management is more than the latest popular terminology. It is an important part of veterinary dentistry. Many of the procedures performed on animals are painful, and it is our duty as technicians to ensure that our patients are as comfortable as possible. The delivery of local nerve blocks prior to performing many dental procedures or oral surgery is a great way to create preemptive analgesia. This can often be incorporated into a multimodal plan for pain control.

It’s Not Just the Heat: The Role of Humidity in Reptile Thermoregulation
Our veterinary training is based on the physiological principles of endothermic animal species, and a thorough understanding of reptile thermal biology is essential to the practice of reptile medicine. This presentation will discuss the physics of heat transfer with an emphasis on how evaporation affects reptile thermoregulation and health. Many of the most common problems seen in reptile practice result from an environment with inadequately managed water in its many forms. Attendees will take home a better understanding of the role that humidity plays in reptile health and disease.

Achieving Healthy Team Balance While Keeping up With Demand (Boehringer Ingelheim)
The demand for veterinary services continues growing and this can result in increased pressure on support staff and veterinary teams. Established and new clients expect nearly instantaneous availability and responsiveness, which is an impractical and unfair burden on veterinary teams. So how does a veterinary practice keep up with the demand? Practical and functional technology is how. Join this discussion of technology that improves client communications, eases the pressure on support staff, keeps the full healthcare team informed, and enhances client loyalty and compliance to medical recommendations.

How to Support Higher Pay Rates
In today's competitive job environment, the mantra seems to be, "How high can you go" when discussing wages. Your cost of living adjustments made last year may not be keeping up with inflation this year. So what’s a business to do? Can you pay more…should you pay more…and what does "more" mean? Higher pay rates should not be the only item when considering what a team member receives for working for you.

Virtual: Fight the Bite: Arthropod Feeding and Vector-Borne Disease Transmission (Ceva)
This session is livestreamed from VMX Orlando. This session will only be streamed live and will not be available On Demand.
Common canine ectoparasites like fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes need to "bite" the dog's skin and consume blood to complete their life cycle. Although these arthropods employ different feeding strategies, all involve causing damage and irritation to the skin through their mouthparts and saliva. Blood feeding also creates risk of transmitting vector-borne pathogens, several of which cause severe and even fatal disease. In this discussion, we will explore how these ectoparasites feed and examine the timing of effectiveness of available control products throughout this intricate process. Optimal protection for dogs from these arthropods involves preventative measures taken before feeding begins, ensuring the highest level of canine comfort and health. Rethinking Our Approach to Feline Orthopedic Assessment
You’ve heard it said that cats are not small dogs…and that is especially true when it comes to orthopedic assessment. While orthopedic disease is very prevalent in cats, it often manifests as subtle behavioral changes rather than obvious lameness. Cat ownership is increasing and there’s a whole population out there waiting for you to serve them. In this thought-provoking discussion, Dr. Palmer is sure to challenge your thinking and presuppositions while offering practical steps you can take to harness and enjoy this practice growth opportunity.

Motivating a Demotivated Team
When someone asks me for an organizational consultancy, one of the aspects frequently mentioned by the company leader is like the following story: “I call you because I see my people different, with little energy, little motivation, apathetic, even indifferent in the performance of their work role, I have received some important complaints from clients regarding the attention they have received, we have made some mistakes in the established protocols...I feel like they are not going where I want to take my company."...Do you have any advice to motivate my team?"
In this talk, we will talk about what motivation is, since it is important to define it and establish a common territory on which we will develop the conference. Our team's motivation is not something to be taken lightly and "react" when it is diminished. We will review some motivation theories and present an integrative scheme of motivation factors for work teams, which incorporates positive psychology within itself and is the model that we apply in our work as consultants. This “layered” model helps and guides leaders to understand and identify what could be hindering a team from flourishing, demonstrating its potential and high performance. There are opportunities for improvement to motivate a team extrinsically, however, we must also discover what intrinsically motivates each of them and understand if it is possible to achieve a balance for both parties. Mythbusters: Enrofloxacin is for All Exotic Companion Mammals
Enrofloxacin is among the most commonly dispensed antibiotics for exotic mammal patients, and may represent many practitioner's first choice for many suspected bacterial infections. Actual published information on ideal dosing and pharmacodynamics in exotic species is not as robust as one might guess. As a non-tier one antibiotic, enrofloxacin may not always be the best first choice.

Laryngeal Paralysis: Fundamentals of the Disease and Treatment Options Workshop
GOLPP affects a large population of dogs but sadly many go undiagnosed, or if diagnosed, do not have access to optimal treatment options. Owners require education on the treatment options so they can make informed decisions and regardless of what they choose (surgical or non-surgical). We as veterinarians should be familiar with the course of clinical disease, how to discuss options with owners, deliver appropriate interventions or where to refer these patients. Cricoarytenoid laryngoplasty (“tie-back”) surgery is the most common surgical option (although there are others). In this laboratory we will cover diagnosis, anesthesia, short and long-term perioperative care session, you will learn the anatomy of the larynx, what is involved in this surgery and have the opportunity to practice on cadavers. Non-surgical treatment plans will also be covered.

The practice of reptile medicine calls for a problem-oriented, evidence-based approach. A rapid, thorough physical examination is the first diagnostic test we perform to identify problems and begin the process of assigning probabilities to specific diagnoses. Just like other diagnostic tests, a physical exam can be characterized by sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value just like other diagnostic tests. Veterinarians who practice reptile medicine may encounter new species, new morphs, and new disease problems on a daily basis, so it is imperative that we conscientiously describe our findings before leaping to conclusions about what may or may not be a problem that requires a diagnosis and management plan. After attending this session, attendees will be better able to recognize a variety of normal and abnormal physical examination findings in reptile patients.

JPS? TPO? THR? FHO??? Navigating Hip Dysplasia Surgical Options
There are numerous surgical options for managing hip dysplasia including juvenile pubic symphysiodesis (JPS), triple or double pelvic osteotomy (TPO/DPO), femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO), and total hip replacement (THR). Even if the practitioner is not performing these surgeries, the decision for when these procedures may be recommended is difficult to navigate. JPS and TPO are time- and disease stage sensitive procedures that could be relatively less expensive options to mitigate a lifetime of hip OA management. This session will cover the main indications and ideal timing of each of these procedures.

Fracture Treatment When Referral Isn’t an Option
Nothing is more distressing for your clients than traumatic skeletal fracture in their beloved pet. Referral to a board-certified surgeon is a great solution, but isn’t always available. Few things are more agonizing to a veterinarian than having to amputate a limb, or worse yet, euthanize a pet when you know that you can learn to treat the fracture yourself. In this session Dr. P will present a practical and fun review of some important fracture treatment principles and techniques that may have slipped your mind. Be ready for some great instructional videos! He’ll also direct you to valuable resources and training courses that help walk you down that fracture treatment pathway.

Do Not Look Into the Light: Laser Therapy for Reptiles
The use of therapeutic lasers in veterinary medicine is on the rise. In human medicine this treatment modality has already been used for many years and many peer reviewed papers document a successful outcome on the use of laser energy for a variety of conditions. The lecture will introduce the concepts of photobiomodulation in reptilian patients and illustrate the point on specific case examples.

Fracture Fails! Case-Based Discussion On What Went Wrong
Successful management of a patient that has sustained a traumatic bone fracture is largely based on careful pre-operative planning. We often learn the most from times when things don't always go smoothly to plan. Fracture management is a fine balance between providing mechanical stability for sufficient time until the fracture heals and optimizing the biology of the tissues to facilitate more rapid healing. This session utilizes case examples with an interactive format to highlight key decision making in common fracture pitfalls.

Does Your Team Have an "Alma" (Soul)? Join Us To Discover Your Alma.
Maybe you are one of the people, like me, who believe that a living being has an A.L.M.A. (SOUL)..."an intangible part that inhabits our body that gives us the ability to think and feel and that is capable of giving life to the organism." If you don't think this way, I fully respect your point of view, since it is difficult to prove. However, in this talk, I want to tell you a summary of my experience as a consultant to veterinary clinics in Latin America, using the Acronym A.L.M.A. (in English means SOUL), since, from my point of view, there are companies that do not have a soul. There are beautiful companies in infrastructure, which look very good from the outside and in their advertising on social media or on their website are fascinating, however, when you enter them, and get to know them from the inside with a critical look as a consultant, you discover that some are very poor in A.L.M.A. or they don't have it. The "internal corporate analysis" of a company is a key aspect that must be designed, put into practice and ensure that each employee feels it, incorporates it into their work and demonstrates it in their work behaviors. We must "take care of our team" in order to take care of our patients and clients, this is a fundamental aspect. There are some companies that have good economic results, however, their employees do not feel recognized for their good work, others believe they have everything necessary to be successful (strategy, investment in marketing, infrastructure, good salaries for their team, etc.) However, they do not achieve the expected results... I invite you to find out if your company or the one you work for has A.L.M.A. (Soul)

Management of Small Breed Dogs with Concurrent CrCL Rupture and Patella Luxation Workshop
SOLD OUT
Small breeds of dogs often will present with acute onset lameness secondary to complete cranial cruciate ligament rupture. Upon physical exam, the stifle is very unstable and a Grade 2-3 patella luxation is often present as well. The patella luxation is aggravated by the presence of excess internal rotational instability due to the CrCl injury. To return the patient to normal function, the CrCl injury must be addressed (stabilized) as well as the patella luxation. The technique described in this laboratory allows the attending surgeon to stabilize the craniocaudal laxity with an isometric extracapsular procedure that allows stabilization of the patella luxation using standard technique.

All You Need is Love, Lights, and Heat
In nature there is no separation between heat and light, hence in captivity, there should not be a separation either nor should one provide only one or the other.
The sun serves as a source of all-natural light and heat, which is actively utilized by reptiles. Reptiles have successfully adapted to the specific microhabitats, which are created by a large variety of environmental factors. When keeping reptiles in captivity the replication of these specific microhabitats is important to ensure a significant health benefit for the reptile, as this is important for the physiology and psychology of the reptile. B: What’s the 411...
To truly BLEND within the veterinary profession, it’s of vital importance we learn how to first communicate with one another. The recognition of cultural differences, the impacts of language, ability status, and an overall understanding of what diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB), means are crucial to the sustainability of the individuals within our profession & our surrounding communities.
This session will address the defining components of DEIB and communication and how to interweave them both within the fabric of our veterinary team culture. Speaker(s): Alyssa Mages Genine Ervin-Smith

Mythbusters: Firmer Restraint is Safer
The history of restraint in exotic companion mammals often originates from techniques used in laboratory animal medicine where animals may be tame but often not accustomed to handling. Techniques may include tight towel wraps, handling tubes, heavy gloves, or scruffing. Recent publications suggest stress related to housing and handling may affect the reliability of laboratory data. Interest in a stress and fear free experience throughout the entire veterinary visit has gained momentum in traditional pet species and can be utilized in exotic species as well.

Tibial Plateau Angle: How and Why to Measure
Cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) disease continues to be a leading cause of hind limb lameness in dogs. Stifle radiographs are often taken as part of the routine work-up of CrCL cases, but most practitioners do not measure the tibial plateau angle (TPA). There are many conservative and surgical treatment options for CrCL disease. Knowledge of the individual patient’s TPA can help determine suitability for certain treatments and aid in client decision making for the best choice for their pet. Speaker(s): Clara Goh

L: The Bottom Line is Color Blind: The Case for Diversity in Veterinary Leadership
All facets of veterinary practices (even those that are non-profit) are businesses that must bring in revenue and make a profit to stay viable and care for pets. Today, we face a shortage of veterinary personnel in all positions. Denying minorities roles in leadership will be detrimental to businesses and the veterinary profession. No veterinary business can afford to curb promoting minorities into leadership. A reputation of discrimination within a veterinary company will deter applicants that are sorely needed. Biases of minorities in leadership are real, they must be rooted out and confronted in the veterinary industry. And, finally, don’t forget; while there is a socioeconomic reason for diversity, This should not be based solely on economic grounds. Affirming the agency and dignity of groups of people should appeal to our and others’ humanity.

Journey from Price to Value - Become Fearless of Your Fees (Zoetis)
Traditionally focus has been placed on leading with pricing. Ideally, this mindset should be shifted to focus on generating value that equals or exceeds pricing. To accomplish this, gaining a thorough understanding of client driven costs and the generation of value is necessary. Overall hospital costs can be reduced with the development of protocols, training, full staff utilization, and three-tiered communication which can simultaneously increase value generation for the client. Gaining an understanding of all the costs that need to be taken into account when setting prices along with different pricing strategies will enable the attendee to construct a plan to set prices in their hospital and monitor the success of their approach.

Using Genetic Insights to Guide a Lifetime of Care (Zoetis)
Pet genetic testing is paving the way for a new era in personalized veterinary care. Genetic testing enables veterinarians to unlock an abundance of health information, providing unique insights into certain health risks or disease predispositions. Most importantly, veterinarians can use these health insights to guide a lifetime of care to promote health and longevity in their patients. By understanding a dog or cat’s genetics, veterinarians can create individualized wellness plans, diagnostic monitoring programs, and specific medical recommendations based on individual risk factors. Based on a pet’s DNA data, diagnostic monitoring, and medical interventions can begin before symptoms develop, leading to earlier disease recognition and management. These genetic insights can prepare and inspire pet parents to better care for their pet’s health. Pet parents can use this information to make more informed decisions about their pet’s diet, exercise, and lifestyle choices and work with their veterinarian to proactively manage and monitor any potential medical conditions. Veterinary genetic testing is the foundation of a pet’s lifetime care plan and has the potential to extend longevity and enhance the quality of life. Join us for a peek into the exciting world of veterinary genetic testing and learn how this cutting-edge technology is transforming pet care as we know it. Presented by: Zoetis Speaker(s): Ernie Ward

Tilt-A-Whirl: Localizing Vestibular Signs and Causes
Vestibular syndromes are one of the most puzzling presentations for veterinarians in their challenge to localize. Of particular difficulty is signs secondary to otitis media/interna which have progressed to bacterial encephalitis as the clinical localization of vestibular signs will change from peripheral to central. We will review anatomy associated with the normal vestibular system. Manifestations of vestibular syndrome and lesion localization will be reviewed to refresh the practitioner on clinically relevant lesion localizations and common diseases associated with each localization. Discussion of bacterial otitis media/interna with secondary bacterial meningoencephalitis will be reviewed in detail including imaging findings and recommended courses of therapy.

N: Pathway Development in Vet Med: Why We’re All "N" This Together!
According to the 2021 US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, less than 2% of veterinarians are Black, less than 5% Latino, and less than 6% Asian. The American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) reports that 70% of the DVM Class 2024 is white. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, there was a massive uptake in unenrollment of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), men, and low-income students, which will exacerbate the demographic divide in the veterinary profession. Improving diversity within the veterinary community will require intentionality and purposeful initiatives by all stakeholders to reduce barriers and create opportunities for underrepresented minority students to consider the pathway of veterinary medicine.

Enucleation: Why Does This Simple Surgery Seem Difficult to Me?
Many practitioners, particularly new graduates, often do not feel comfortable removing a blind, painful eye that warrants enucleation. This lecture will provide an overview of this procedure and provide some useful tips to making each procedure a more comfortable experience for both patient and veterinarian alike. Video will be used to help explain key learning points.

Simplifying the Dermatological Approach to the Itchy Cat
Allergies in cats are one of the most challenging and frustrating medical conditions we deal with as veterinarians due to the severity of dermatological lesions, significantly decreased quality of life, limited medical therapy options, and difficulty administering medications to cats. Cats tend to develop significant psychogenic components to pruritic behaviors that need to be addressed to maintain adequate control of the clinical signs. This hour will discuss reaction patterns associated with allergy in cats and how to utilize a streamlined diagnostic approach to accurately distinguish allergic diseases in cats. We will review the typical treatment approaches and how to utilize the therapies in difficult cases.

Sniffles and Sneezes: Unraveling Respiratory Infections in Dogs and Cats
Doesn’t it feel like there is a sneezing kitten or a coughing dog on the appointment schedule every day? It can be frustrating to decide in the moment if a patient needs an antibiotic or just a little supportive care. This presentation will cover Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, Feline Upper Respiratory Infections (FHV-1, FCV, Mycoplasma spp., and Chlamydophila felis), and common causes of lower respiratory infections, particularly pneumonia, in both dogs and cats. We will also review the strategies and mechanisms that the immune-system response utilizes to defend against these pathogens to help us maximize judicious use of antimicrobials.

D: Allyship 101
You have likely heard the phrase “getting comfortable being uncomfortable” more and more often. It means that to help create real change, to expand and grow, to be antiracist, to stand up for the oppressed and marginalized, and to remain relevant - we must invite and initiate tough conversations. We must speak up with radical candor. We must be active allies. And we must learn how to incorporate these important concepts into our culture and workflow. During this program we will discuss the essential elements of allyship including self-education, leveraging privilege and power, reaffirming that allyship centers on the oppressed, and the power of committing fully.

Does This Pug Truly Have Glaucoma?
In this author’s opinion, the ability to perform tonometry is essential to every veterinarian engaged in small animal practice. Tonometry minimizes the chances of making an important or even catastrophic error in diagnosis. Intraocular pressure (IOP) should be determined in every red eye with an intact cornea and sclera, providing the globe is not at risk of rupture (e.g. descemetocele). Join this short lecture for IOP capturing pearls. Speaker(s): Elizabeth A. Giuliano

MC03: Bites, Bullets and Branches: Successful Management of Penetrating Injuries
SOLD OUT
Penetrating wounds are deceiving! An innocuous-looking skin puncture can hide deep damage, the consequence of strong forces (e.g. crushing and shearing by teeth, cavitation by bullets) that injure tissues and their blood supplies, create dead space, and/or inoculate bacteria or foreign material. Local inflammation can progress to systemic inflammatory response syndrome or sepsis days after injury. In this session, we’ll use case examples of small animal patients with penetrating wounds caused by bites, gunshots, and other objects to discuss the iceberg effect, appropriate diagnostics, the critical importance of surgical debridement (yes, even if it only appears to be a flesh wound!), indications for celiotomy or thoracotomy, the use of drains, and the role of antibiotics.

Why is My Dog STILL Itchy? (Zoetis) - Breakfast Session
Dermatologic cases make up a significant portion of a small animal veterinarian’s daily caseload. Secondary bacterial and yeast infections with concomitant pruritus is a common scenario, leading to perceived failure of allergy treatment. Importantly, not every pruritic patient has allergies. This session will provide an image-rich and case-based approach to provide a practical diagnostic framework for the canine patient with lesions and pruritus to diagnose common and uncommon conditions. There will be a special focus on the importance of cutaneous cytology, as well as biopsy and clinical consultations with specialists to guide optimal diagnostic and treatment decisions. Images and videos will demonstrate lesion selection and collection strategies to optimize the accuracy of cutaneous cytology. This session will explore a new and innovative way to obtain efficient cytology results for your everyday dermatology cases with the utilization of Vetscan Imagyst®. In this presentation learn how deep learning AI can alleviate challenges surrounding workflow and the time it takes to read samples while providing practitioners confidence in the accuracy or results for skin impression smears along with ear and skin swab cytologic smears. Treating Anesthetic Hypotension: Beyond the Fluid Bolus
Hypotension is frequently observed in patients placed under general anesthesia. Left untreated, anesthesia-related hypotension can have significant consequences. As a result, it is important to recognize and treat hypotension when it occurs. This lecture will discuss the many contributors to anesthesia-related hypotension and go through an algorithm that will help determine which factors are likely contributing to low blood pressure and how to treat them. The Third Eyelid - To Flap or Not To Flap?
Third eyelid flaps have been used widely for treatment of ulcers. While they do provide a “bandage” that reduces desiccation and potential frictional irritation of the cornea by the upper and lower eyelids, they are also associated with potentially significant deleterious effects. Join Dr. Giuliano for a short discussion of when a third eyelid flap can be helpful or harmful and think about adding this skill to your clinical armamentarium. Speaker(s): Elizabeth A. Giuliano
