Analgesia for “Blockheads” - Dental Nerve Blocks Workshop SOLD OUT
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
$400 (V,VT)
Local anesthetic drugs are considered the quintessential analgesic, uniquely capable of blocking 100% of pain perception. Nerve blocks provide a rapid onset of analgesia, work synergistically with other analgesics, and enable reduced inhalant concentrations while improving patient recoveries. Local anesthetic drugs play a crucial role in a multi-modal plan. Clients have come to expect pain management from veterinary facilities, and adding dental nerve blocks can be a simple and profitable way to augment patient care.
During this 1 hour presentation (with instructional videos) and 2-3 hour hands-on workshop, attendees will perform the following techniques utilizing canine and feline cadaver models: Maxillary, infraorbital, middle mental, and mandibular nerve blocks. 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
$350 (V,VT,PM)
Providing your clients with an appropriate early socialization class might be the most important prevention service you can offer! Through proper early socialization and positive experiences, many behavior problems can be prevented; thus keeping dogs in their homes and keeping patients in your hospital. Puppy Preschool can also produce canine patients that are happy and eager to come to your facility. All socialization is not the same. If implemented improperly there is a risk of exacerbating or causing behavior problems. This interactive workshop combines a combination of lecture, video, and practical skills with models and dogs to provide a multimodal learning approach.

We will also simulate performing a liver biopsy. All procedures are performed on patients as part of their preparation for adoption and will take place off-site. We will provide additional information regarding the final details.
DON'T BECOME THE YELLOW CAB OF VETERINARY MEDICINE - STAY RELEVANT
Not sure what that means? Well you will want to know. Uber changed transportation and as a result left millions of cabbies irrelevant and without income after significant investment. In the veterinary industry the practice model has changed. You are faced with multiple competing alternate care models that could make your brick and mortar practice irrelevant. This class will help your practice stay relevant in these changing times. You will leave with the Digital Practice Playbook created by Dr. Kerri Marshall and Bruce Truman - both proven leaders driving veterinary digital transformation. This session will help you and your practice stay relevant.
The session will show you evidence based proof that the same digital transformation that happened in retail (Amazon), lodging (AirBnB) and transportation (Uber) is happening NOW in the veterinary industry. This session will give you the tools to go home and prepare your practice to transform and not be left behind as a no-lo practice (no dollar value, or an exceptionally low value)
Once the evidence is presented we will then move into the solution for your practice. Members of the audience will be called upon to conduct a digital assessment of their practice and leave with an implementation plan and support network to help with transformation.
The time is now to look critically at your practice and make change. We will arm you with the information and tools needed to meet the needs of your New Age clients who desire price transparency, convenience and engagement.

Because of this, participants must have successfully completed the RECOVER online BLS and ALS courses available at recoverinitiative.org (or have taken the courses previously offered by eCornell or Veritas). Successful completion of this course grants certification as a RECOVER BLS and ALS Rescuer. Human medical professionals certified in human CPR. Veterinary medical professionals should certify themselves in veterinary CPR!
Registration for the online portion of the certifying course is included in the registration fee of the onsite portion to be held at the conference. Once registration for this workshop is complete, participants will be notified with login information for the online portion of the course and must be completed before the onsite portion for the individual to become certified in RECOVER CPR.

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a psychological intervention designed to help people move forward in a way that is in line with their values. It helps people to become aware of their automatic reactions by assisting them to think and feel what they are physically thinking and feeling in that moment, rather than their assumption of what they are thinking and feeling.
ACT is about values-guided, and mindful, action where we can accept our internal experiences and avoidance, put our problematic and troublesome thoughts into context, explore the goals and values we have, and commit to move forward in the direction of our life values.
Essentially, ACT aims to create a full, meaningful, and rich life while being able to accept the inevitable pain that often goes along with it.

Common Feline Surgery Procedures Workshop
8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
$800 (V)
This course is designed to teach participants the technical aspects of a variety of feline soft tissue surgery procedures. Surgical procedures will be performed immediately after viewing the video. The videos will be viewed in the same room so no time is wasted between seeing the procedure and performing it on a feline specimen! Topics have been chosen that represent surgical conditions commonly seen in cats and include: nasal planum and auricular resection, esophagostomy feeding tube placement, a new approach to perineal urethrostomy, chest drain placement using a feeding tube, trocar and percutaneous chest drain placement, diaphragmatic hernia repair, and ventral bulla osteotomy.

Recover CPR - Instructor Certification Workshop- Basic and Advanced Life Support
8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
$450 (V,VT,PM)
A workshop introducing concepts and providing training on immersive simulation education using OpenVetSim, an open - source veterinary education simulation platform. This intensive training session focuses on using immersive simulation approaches to teach CPR to veterinary professionals. Successful participants will become RECOVER Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) Instructors in the process. Participants must have successfully completed the RECOVER BLS and ALS online courses and be RECOVER Certified Rescuers in BLS and ALS. Participants will learn how to conduct the BLS and ALS certification courses and administer standardized assessments to certify others in BLS and ALS. Participants will learn how to run hands-on BLS certification workshops with CPR mannequins and how to deliver the standardized assessments to certify others in BLS. Attendees will then learn to run a hands-on ALS certification workshop with a canine patient simulator running a series of CPR simulations, and ultimately a final "mega-code" certification simulation.
Anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapies are commonly used in hypercoagulable patients for the prevention of thromboembolism. This session will discuss the use and benefit of commonly administered anticoagulant and antiplatelet medications and will include case discussion.

RD29: Canine Lameness: Case-Based Discussion from Simple to Complex
In this session will work through complex cases systematically with a problem-oriented approach, and use case context such as breed and geographic locale to limit differential diagnoses and determine if additional testing is warranted in a patient whose tests are initially negative. We will show how certain clinical problems are more commonly associated with some vector borne diseases, and how that can guide testing as well. How co-infection can confound diagnosis will also be illustrated.

Stabilization may be complicated with the need for transfusion. Initiating medications such as immunosuppressants and anticoagulants will be discussed as they relate to individual patient needs. Key points in diagnosis will also be discussed in this case-based open forum.
